Flight-Capable FACE Computer Systems

TES-i’s flight-capable Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) computer system, known as TESseract is a scalable off-the-shelf solution for rugged, flight-capable UAS computers featuring the VITA 74 NanoX Small Form Factor System (VNX) and hosts FACE architectures. A rapid integration solution for FACE developers and FACE platforms, TESseract grows as needs change, from a small 2-card system to a fully redundant 8-slot solution.

Designed to work standalone or within a triple redundant system, TESseract’s processing center features two QorIQ PowerPC based processors, a next generation communications card, and a host of I/O in a package one-third the weight and size of today’s standard 3U-VME Chassis. The TESseract processors are loaded with a FACE common operating environment, including FACE architecture libraries, allowing it to support a wide range of avionics, embedded development, and real-time safety-critical operations.

Rugged for harsh environments, the TESseract features a wide range of input power supplies, a fully sealed conduction-cooled chassis, and MIL-STD-810G based environments for embedded processing operating in the most extreme UAS environments. Expandable I/O cards provide XMC connection points for an array of MIL-STD-1553, serial, digital and analog I/O, along with options for embedded IMUs, EGI, and differential GPS systems.

TESseract’s FW-3x-VNX-800 VNX 19mm card provides a robust, redundant, EMI-protected, and flight-capable networking bus. EMI protection extends to the PCIe-based shared memory rings between VNX Chassis. Based on proven AS5643/IEEE-1394b (Mil-1394) standards and hardware, our implementation provides deterministic gigabit speed and triple redundancy.
